Contractor Tools for Your Bottom Line.

Bridge and Roadway Contractors

Bridge and Roadway contractors depend on subcontractors for various aspects of construction. Delays and changes in schedule, often due to weather conditions, can severely impact the profitability of a job. Job costing and accurate bid management, both yours for the job and those from subs, are keys to a profitable outcome.

What did I bid on a similar job last year? How much profit did I make? Where were my budget overruns? ComputerEase stores this information and allows you to quickly retrieve it for effective bidding or other project management tasks.

If my cost for an item increases due to a change in market conditions am I stuck with the bid price? Should I build a larger "buffer" into my bid or does my contract allow me to pass this cost on to my customer? ComputerEase helps you track costs and contracts so these questions can be answered quickly allowing you to make better project management and resource allocation decisions.

Am I required to hire/pay employees and subs based on union or prevailing wage rates? How does changing tax jurisdictions affect wages and profits? With ComputerEase all this information is loaded with the job so it's simple to keep track of quickly and accurately.

Do I own or should I rent appropriate equipment for parts or all of the job? ComputerEase equipment management module can help you make this vital decision.

While many types of contractors have similar questions, roadway and bridge contractors often have the greatest risks for delays and schedule changes due to weather issues. Heavy rainfall can delay a project for weeks while an area dries enough for proper installation.

While ComputerEase construction management software can't help you control the weather, it can help you play the "what if" game to develop effective bid management strategies to help buffer these considerations.

"Charge the equipment to the job"

One of the uh, areas in construction that we find ComputerEase to be particularly well suited for are, what we refer as, heavy highway (roadway) contractors, road builders, utility contractors or site work contractors. Uh, their needs are, are a little unique compared to a general building contractor for a couple reasons. Uh, one can, one situation is that they provide not only the labor to do the work but their type of work, because of its nature, requires heavy equipment, like bulldozers, graders, those types of equipment, which are very, very expensive to uh, operate and uh, provide a big part of the construction costs and one of the big variable costs. Uh, where a person might cost you 30 to $50 uh, an hour, a piece of equipment's probably gonna run 90 to $150 an hour. So if you just run over uh, by a small amount, you can end up uh, with a big expense on there. And ComputerEase does a wonderful job of tracking equipment (management) usage against the jobs, allowing you to charge the equipment to the job so that you'll know what the true expense of the job is.
